More disease resistant than P. edulis, this plant is frequently used as a rootstock for Purple Passion Fruit when grown commercially. The flowers are larger and have a dark purple center. Very sweetly scented. The fruit is more acidic and considered inferior to P. edulis, but is still very good for fresh eating, juices, jellies, and deserts. Does not tolerate heavy pruning. Must have a separate passion vine to set fruit.
