Another nice old turned wooden corkscrew

to the sun- or star-like pattern surrounding the hole of the whistle

I believe this box dates to the late 19th or very early 20th century

and in just about as perfect condition now as when it was made

beautfully arching arm and wonderful bulb-like form carved at the end of the strait handle

It's heavy, and definitely more or less industructible, with a great patina to the metal (which I believe is brass but I guess could possibly be steel given a brass like finish), and which is screwed to the thick wooden base.
